Emergency Medical Technician

Program Description

1 Year Program

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program prepares students for careers and post-secondary education in emergency medical services and healthcare through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on clinical experiences. Students learn patient assessment, Basic Life Support (BLS), healthcare provider CPR, emergency medical procedures, trauma care, patient stabilization, and emergency response techniques while developing the skills needed to provide care in a variety of emergency situations. The curriculum follows College of DuPage guidelines and prepares eligible students for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification exam upon meeting age and industry requirements. Performance is evaluated through written assessments, practical skills demonstrations, professional behavior, safety, attendance, and employability skills. Students gain valuable real-world experience through ambulance ride-alongs, crisis simulations, first aid response opportunities, and other hands-on training activities. Throughout the program, students develop technical expertise, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, professionalism, and sound decision-making skills, preparing them for employment or continued education in emergency medical services, paramedicine, nursing, firefighting, healthcare, and related public safety fields.
