Fire Science

How many of your friends can say they have cut apart a car, put out a fire, or searched an area in total darkness to find a fire victim?

TCD's Fire Science class covers material from Introduction to Fire Science, Tactics, and IFSTA Essentials of Firefighting.  Students will have the opportunity to ride with a fire department and experience the life of a firefighter.  Students will also participate in a mass casualty and extrication drill held jointly with the EMT class as well as live fire evolution training.

What Will My Class Be Like?

The Fire Science program includes safety, fire behavior, rescue/extrication techniques (including use of the "jaws of life"), communications, and equipment use and maintenance, and cell burns.

Students will explore the field of fire protection and emergency services, career opportunities, the culture and history of fire service, as well as fire loss analysis.

Topics include basic chemistry of fire, strategy and tactics of extinguishment, utilization of manpower and equipment, and analysis of various fire situations.
