September 2023 Students of the Month

Congratulations to Ayaan Mamda for being named one of DAOES's Students of the Month for September. Ayaan is a Senior at Glenbard South High School and a student in our Early Childhood Education and Care Program.

In her nomination, Ayaan’s instructor Mrs. Vanessa Miceli wrote: “Ayaan is currently in his second year in our ECEC program, having joined us during the second semester last year. Despite starting late and missing half a semester of skills and instruction, he displayed resilience and quickly caught up. Last year, Ayaan's enthusiasm shone through when he dressed up as the Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat during his circle time story. This year, he's taking on the role of a second-year mentor teacher, and, in just a few weeks, he has already left us in amazement with his commitment and dedication to the classroom. One project that truly showcases Ayaan's dedication is the creation of a tree in our circle time area. Along with a hardworking classmate, they not only created this idea but also brought it to life. They even dedicated several extra days of their own time from Directions to complete this project. Ayaan hopes to become a high school history teacher one day.

Congratulations, Ayaan!
Congratulations to Sherlyn Espino for being named one of DAOES’s Students of the Month for September. Sherlyn is a Junior from Fenton High School and a student in our Criminal Justice Program.

In his nomination, Sherlyn’s instructor Mr. Rob Fitzmaurice wrote: “I would like to nominate Sherlyn “Lyn” Espino for Student of the month. Lyn attends Fenton High School. She is an exceptional student in the Criminal Justice program! She arrives ready to work every day with a smile and a most positive attitude. She engages in every conversation and is extremely eager to learn about the filed of Criminal Justice. She conducts herself in a professional manner during the entire class and is always ready to help a fellow student. She offers assistance to anyone who needs it. Lyn volunteers to read to the class and initiates many discussions. We recently had our first test and Lyn took it upon herself to create a quizlet for the test. She then disseminated that to her classmates who then forwarded it to Mr. Santoyo’s class. All of the Criminal Justice students are able to benefit from Lyn’s ingenuity and generosity.

Congratulations, Lyn!
