Program Description

1 or 2 Year Program

The Automotive Technology program prepares students for careers and post-secondary education in the automotive industry through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on shop experience. Students learn from ASE-certified instructors while working with modern tools, diagnostic equipment, and industry-standard repair techniques. The curriculum covers engine design and operation, computerized engine controls, electrical systems, brakes, steering, suspension, alignment, heating and air conditioning, fuel management, transmissions, exhaust systems, emissions, engine diagnostics, and repair. In the second year, students advance to engine rebuilding and advanced diagnostics. Performance is evaluated through written assessments, practical shop work, professional behavior, safety, attendance, and employability skills. The program also offers college credit opportunities through College of DuPage, Triton College, Universal Technical Institute, and Nashville Auto-Diesel College. Students can participate in job shadows, internships, and other workplace learning experiences with local repair shops, dealerships, and municipalities. Throughout the program, students develop technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, reliability, and time management skills, preparing them for employment or continued education in automotive technology and related fields.
